I haven’t read the book, but I can only assume from your description that it is actually a chilling allegorical portrait of senility. The grey man, unable to remember his own name, becomes paranoid and immersed in fantasies where he is young and strong and able to once more fire his beloved “weapon”.

Scary stuff. I’d buy it, but I like more mindless entertaining types of things. That sounds a bit too heavy on the emotionalitude.

I was there for the opening, the exhibition is AMAZING!! Over 100 artworks by Wayne Thiebaud in the museum, I have to believe this is the largest show of Thiebaud’s in recent decades.

Yes P.G. Wodehouse is awesome. The Jeeves Novels reign supreme, but he wrote a lot and it all good from his first novel on. Such comic genius that was like all the great screwball comedies of yesteryear.

Thrilled to have found this web site. I am 73 years old and was born and raised at Oak & North Aves. Worked for Tom Manzell in my teens and spent many hours hauling gravel from the quarry for the city of Elmhurst. Spent a few hours swimming in the Salt Creek too. Thanks for the look back. I grew up with the man….and yes, he was indeed a very cool guy! My dad never “retired”, there wasn’t time to sit back and watch the world go by. His passion was hiking and fortunately for the rest of us, he adopted the Santa Monica Mountains! May he rest there.

Golly, I WISH that the ever-vigilant error-finders of the web would pounce on things like mistaken names of sculptures – but I think somehow that’s not quite their speed. Now, you put up a faulty examination of an Ed Wood movie (and by faulty, I mean that you attribute an extra in the background of the interior-spaceship shot to an EXTERIOR-spaceship shot, you stupid thing) and they’ll come down on you like a ton of bricks. Or a pouncing lion or grand piano. Whatever.
