Nice Work

From the Dark Backward and Abysm of Time

April 9, 2008 · No Comments

What do the Atherton Archives hold for us today? Let’s reach down deep into the dark backward and abysm of time to fetch out yet another heartwarming drawing of mine. What have we here…?

Ah! This one is from a fine magazine called American Fitness which each month addresses the question, “What are Americans fit for?” I am chagrined to report that the answer is almost always “exercise and diet.” Here we see the primal joy of walking on a board being passed down to the next eager batch of humans. Construction sites are no longer the carefree, brick and rebar studded playgrounds we remember from our childhood — collapsing cranes have changed all that — and so today’s kids must learn under adult supervision how to not fall sideways while traversing the length of a narrow, elevated platform.
